Viceland, the new TV channel from Vice, will arrive in the UK next month.

The 24-hour channel, overseen by Oscar-winning director and producer Spike Jonze, will bring original content from Vice’s in-house creative team to the small screen.

The UK channel will launch on Sky and Now TV with documentary film The Viceland Census, a one-off special surveying young people across the country about everything from politics to drugs

It will provide “young British people with a platform to speak freely and voice their views”, according to Vice, who also publish Vice News.

Programming for the channel will draw on content from across the media brand’s digital content arms, including vice.com.

Content will include UK and US-focused original series and documentaries.

It will feature Emmy-winning current affairs show Vice, which airs on HBO in the US, as well as Vice World of Sports, a documentary series about sports cultures.

Among the UK offerings is Rule Britannia, said to feature “dispatches for a changing Britain with stories which take you to the unexplored and forgotten corners of the UK”.

US factual series Gaycation will feature actress Ellen Page and friend Ian Daniel journeying the globe to document LGBT cultures around the world.

Alex Miller, Viceland’s creative director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: “Over the past decade, Vice has been making game-changing video content on the internet and in doing so, transformed the way people make shows about food, news, fashion, culture, tech and more.

“Just as we changed the way everyone thought about online video, Viceland will change the way we think about a TV channel.

“We’re launching with a slate that we think fulfills our goal: to make Viceland the most original and important TV channel for young people in the country.”

Vice News recently laid off 20 journalists, including five in the  UK and 15 in the US.
